The Conservative Party would never stand a chance of winning the election if the multiple left-of-centre parties weren't splitting the liberal vote.

The NDP and Liberals have the option of proposing a coalition majority government after the election. It hasn't happened in Canada since the 1940s, but it's common in western European countries in which the votes are split between multiple mainstream parties.
